Drafting Super Bowl Futures with Alex Garibaldi
Drafting Super Bowl Futures with Alex Garibaldi
It's a two-blog week! Alex is back on to do one of our favorite activities: draft. But we won't be drafting players this time, we are drafting teams to win the Super Bowl ahead of the Super Wildcard Weekend. There is a twist though. We are drafting the teams if we had to place one futures bet on the Super Bowl. So the Chiefs may be our favorite, but we may like the odds we are getting from other teams better.
Alex and I will do a snake draft and I gave him the honor of picking first. Since it is a snake draft I get the 2nd and 3rd picks and then we go back and forth until all 14 teams are picked. The odds were pulled on Thursday from DraftKings and may be subject to change.
Hopefully this gets the juices flowing for the home stretch of football!
The Draft
1st Pick: Eagles +550
Alex Reasoning: 4th best odds for arguably the best team in the league during the regular season? Sign me up. Health will be an issue but I am confident that their bye week will get Hurts back up and running, when he was healthy this year, they only lost 1 game. The NFC isn't super deep either, the 49ers are awesome but how far will a 7th round QB take them?
2nd Pick: Bengals +850
Jay Reasoning: I know there are injuries and the offensive line still has some problems. But give me Joe Burrow for more than double the odds of Mahomes and Allen. It's getting cold outside and Joe Brrr is back.
3rd Pick: Chiefs +350
Jay Reasoning: Futures picks are hard. Mahomes had an incredible season but they lost some explosiveness without Tyreek Hill and that defense relies a lot on Chris Jones to disrupt every down. But I couldn't let you have them after I have two picks only to see Patrick lifting the Lombardi.
4th Pick: Bills +400
Alex Reasoning: Alright this is a steal. Bills have possibly the top QB-WR duo in the league and feel like they are a team of destiny.
5th Pick: 49ers +500
Alex Reasoning: This pick was hard because as I alluded to earlier, how far can Purdy take them? He's been phenomenal so far and the 49ers are, in my opinion, clearly the most talented team in the league. That makes me love them, but Purdy scares me. Maybe I'm looking into it too much, only time will tell.
6th Pick: Buccaneers +2800
Jay Reasoning: From the team in the Bay to the quarterback from the Bay. I don't trust the Bucs at all. But I don't trust any of the head coaches or quarterbacks above them that are left. Get Tom to the 4th quarter in a one score game and let's see what happens.
7th Pick: Jaguars +5000
Jay Reasoning: Remember last year when a second year quarterback and his team got hot and made it to the big game? Take me from Skyline to Duval. Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson have been a fun duo and the other Josh Allen has the defense making some timely plays. If they don't call any weird plays that cause them to fumble I will ride with the big bet.
8th Pick: Chargers +2000
Alex Reasoning: The playoffs come down to a QB and a pass rush. The Chargers have both. But the Chargers usually Charger so we can all dream. Go back to San Diego dammit.
9th Pick: Vikings +3500
Alex Reasoning: 2023 Super Bowl MVP - Kirk Cousins has a nice ring to it. Vikings will either win it all or lose horribly and break my heart. I'm confident one of those will happen, take a wild guess which one.
10th Pick: Ravens +3500
Jay Reasoning: I must be the throwback guy because let me remind you that John Harbaugh has won a Super Bowl with a quarterback who bet on himself financially. If you bet this, don't think about the first team having Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, and Ed Reed. Also, Lamar is not going to play. Only a few slight differences between the two.
11th Pick: Dallas Cowboys +1200
Jay Reasoning: You picked the first Kirk Cousins but let me pick Kirk Cousins with a Direct TV endorsement. Betting on the Cowboys is never a sure thing. But Micah Parsons can provide the pass rush and the skill group, led by Ceedee Lamb and Tony Pollard, can hang with anyone.
12th Pick: Giants +5500
Alex Reasoning: They could easily beat the Vikings in the Wild Card, something I'm not confident in saying about Miami or Seattle.
13th Pick: Seahawks +7000
Alex Reasoning: Seattle has a divisional opponent for their first game, probably won't pull it off but who knows. Pete Carroll is a phenomenal coach who has been there before, he could (potentially) spin something again.
14th Pick: Dolphins +6000
Jay Reasoning: No Tua in Buffalo is tough. The defense has left a lot to be desired. I've already bet against my team so it's an emotional hedge done.
Do you disagree with our picks? Let us know! Enjoy the playoffs everyone and go 'Phins!
