College Football Week 5 and NFL Week 4 Preview: 9/28 - 10/2

College Football Week 5 and NFL Week 4 Preview: 9/28 - 10/2 Thursday, September 28th What to Watch For Game of the Day: Lions at Packers A great rematch from week 18 last year, but no more Rodgers, it's all about the Love. The Lions got back to their game this past week, and the Packers rebounded well from a terrible first half. A big matchup for me is Love versus the Lions pass rush. Having the home game will help, but if Aaron Jones does not play or is limited, the receivers need to get open sooner than they have been. A Game for the Football Crazies: Middle Tennessee State at Western Kentucky This game will go a long time because neither team wants to run the ball. If you miss the Mike Leach Wazzu days, this is a game for you. Why run the ball when you can throw a bubble screen? If the NFL primetime game isn't for you, get weird with your Thursday night. Picks of the Day Pick: Packers ML (+100) vs Lions I know the Lions are everyone's darlings, but the Packers have had...

Thoughts on College Football's Week 4 and NFL Week 3

Thoughts on College Football's Week 4 and NFL Week 3 1. Best of the Week Best Game: Ohio State at Notre Dame What a night in South Bend! I feel for the Irish faithful, they showed up on a big night and had a great game. Notre Dame is better than most opposing fans want to admit, but they brought Hartman in for this game. Having 10 players on the field to end the game is inexcusable. That was unfortunate. But I think the gap is closing to the top, and the Irish certainly are still in the playoff hunt. Best Player: Cam Ward (QB) - Washington State No offense to Bo Nix, who was surgical against Colorado, but Ward had the best performance of the weekend. The Two-PAC championship did not disappoint. Oregon State is physical and methodical, but Ward would not let his team lose, answering every time. He was confident in the pocket, excellent at moving his feet, and accurate to every level. The Cougars were a forgotten team in realignment, but they could make some noise in this final sea...

College Football Week 4 and NFL Week 3 Preview: 9/21 - 9/25

College Football Week 4 and NFL Week 3 Preview: 9/21 - 9/25 Thursday, September 21st What to Watch For Game of the Day: Giants at 49ers Did Daniel Jones save the season last week in the second half against Arizona? This is quite the stage for a follow up. The 49ers look like maybe the best team in football. Can the Giants keep the good times rolling in the short week? What do these two guru's scheme up in 4 days? Prime definitely got a better slate this year. Most Entertaining Game: Georgia State at Coastal Carolina The Sun Belt games are so fun. Last year we featured a play from this game as the play of the week. Coastal is adjusting to life with a new coach, but they still have a great homefield advantage and a veteran quarterback. If the TNF game is meh, as some primetime NFL has been, then flip over here. Picks of the Day Pick: o62.5 (-110) Georgia State vs Coastal Carolina Why not cheer for points to start your weekend? It feels like a dumb pick, but maybe it's just dumb...

Thoughts on College Football's Week 3 and NFL Week 2

Thoughts on College Football's Week 3 and NFL Week 2 1. Best of the Week Best Game: Seahawks at Lions Petition to make this game a permanent fixture on the NFL schedule. Geno Smith moved the ball well against a Detroit defense that looked great last week in Kansas City, but the Lions also showed they can play in multiple types of games, a must if they make the playoffs. This game was truly a great back and forth, a joy to watch and a reason we love the NFL. Best Player: Micah Parson (FREAK) - Cowboys I don't know what position to list him as but he is a freak. He also is the most valuable non-QB in football. He made the Jets' lives a collective hell. He started out with that beautiful stunt inside to sack Zach Wilson and he finished the game off with another sack on a failed screen play. Yes, he plays on the edge a lot, but Dan Quinn gets creative in finding ways to let him eat. Keep an eye on him when you watch all those prime time Cowboys games this year. Best Uniform: ...

College Football Week 3 and NFL Week 2 Preview: 9/14 - 9/18

College Football Week 3 and NFL Week 2 Preview: 9/14 - 9/18 Another great fall weekend ahead of us, here is your guide to every day of the football weekend. Thursday, September 14th What to Watch For Game of the Day: Vikings at Eagles Al Michaels will be much more pleased with this game to start off the season after sulking through broadcasts last year. The Vikings had a rough showing on Sunday against the Bucs, but they get to try to bounce back early in the week. The Eagles jumped out to a big lead and then almost squandered it away against the Pats. It's a short week, so expect a close, physical game. Most Entertaining Game: Bethune-Cookman at Miami Miami looked good against Texas A&M but lost their best player, Kamren Kinchens, to an injury. How does the team respond from such a fast-paced game with a short week? No letdowns if you're the Canes. A Game for the Football Crazies: Navy at Memphis Memphis feels left out in the cold after not getting the invite to the Big ...

Thoughts on College Football's Week 2 and NFL Week 1

Thoughts on College Football's Week 2 and NFL Week 1 A full weekend of football. We had big matchups, some teams stumbling, and that witching hour in the NFL where every game flips late. Here's my thoughts on the week. 1. Best of the Week Best Game: Texas at Alabama A game of college football royalty. There were some awesome games on Sunday, but the emotions this game brought out of people were the best. This game was full of big plays, both positive and negative, and the true definition of the slugfest. Texas showed they have the line play to hang with the big boys and Quinn Ewers has polished up his game nicely. Let's see if there is a letdown coming or if Texas really is back. Best Player: Quinn Ewers Fun fact: of the previous 5 quarterbacks that have beat Saban in Tuscaloosa, 3 have won the Heisman. Let's see if Ewers can join them. The man lost 30 lbs, cut off his mullet, and learned the footwork to match his golden arm. There was a lot of talk that he struggles ...

College Football Week 2 and NFL Week 1 Preview: 9/7 - 9/11

College Football Week 2 and NFL Week 1 Preview: 9/7 - 9/11 The first weekend of the Shield and Texas heads to Tuscaloosa. Life is good in the football world. Below are some things I will be watching and picks I will be playing. Thursday, September 7th What to Watch For Game of the Day: Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs The NFL is officially back on Thursday night as the defending Super Bowl champions take on everyone's darling Lions. I am excited to see how the Chiefs' offense looks with a new left tackle and new weapons on the outside. Never bet against Mahomes. The Lions finished hot last year, but does it mean anything? I can't wait to find out. A Game for the Football Crazies: Murray State at Louisville Cardinals So the Cardinals looked a lot better last week than I thought they would. They'll stay hot, but throw the game on your second tv if you need something to watch during commercial breaks in the Chiefs vs Lions game. Picks of the Day Pick: Lions at Chiefs u5...

Thoughts on College Football's Week 1

Thoughts on College Football's Week 1 Going to try to break the blog up into two pieces this year. Here are some thoughts from a packed Labor Day weekend of football and we will look at next weekend later in the week. 1. Best of the Week Best Game: LSU vs Florida State (Orlando) I know the final score was lopsided, but this game had some haymakers throughout that showed how talented both of these programs were. It was sloppy in stretches, for example when Jordan Travis threw a pick on a screen right after LSU muffed a punt. I am curious to see how both teams come back next week after such a physical game, go watch the highlights to see all the huge hits being delivered. Best Player: Travis Hunter (ATH - Colorado) Deion has given us so much in one game as the Colorado coach. But probably the best part of his tenure is his willingness to use his best player's abilities to their fullest potential. Travis Hunter was everywhere, with 11 catches and a game-sealing interception. Deion...
